Up
to the age of five years night-time bedwetting is not unusual
as about 30% of children have not achieved dryness at night
by this age. By the age of seven years about 5-10% of children
still wet the bed frequently. This can be distressing for
both the child and parent and can inhibit the social life
for the child for overnight parties and school trips.
Dr
Rundle runs regular clinics for this condition and can offer
advice and treatment for parents and children. This may involve
helping the child to understand the difficulty and to develop
ways of coping. In children over 7 years, the use of electronic
moisture sensors and alarms will help to train the child to
recognise the time to wake and use the toilet. This will increase
the number of dry nights and relieve the anxiety and distress
of bedwetting.
